The deep red brown of the wings contrasting with the cream tuft on the thorax combine to beautiful effect in the Coxcomb Prominent. The scientific species name is capucina recalling the colour of the robes of Capuchin monks. In Caithness it is found in broadleaved woodlands and is on the wing from May into July.
