I came across this bizarre oyster-catchers nest in the hollow top of a strainer post. Its on a busy local main road so I hope its left unmollested.

if it is the one in j.o.g, i have been been watching it for the past 2 weeks.took a couple of quick pics of the eggs.fingers crossed they will hatch soon.

This is a fairly common practice with Oystercatchers, they like to nest in obscure places. Here's another photo of one nesting in the hollow top of a fence post.

yeah they certainly pick their spots lol there were a pair that used to nest on the triangular island going down on to the Nigg roundabout (not sure if its there this year as not been to inverness for a couple of months) :lol:

hillhead school have one on the their roof, head teacher reported that there were four eggs and all hatched, bairns fair impressed

I know they can tend to nest in the most strange places - a couple of years ago a pair laid eggs in my tattie plot, unfortunately the cats eventually persuaded them to leave. However to me this one takes the biscuit.
