If the Germans continue to expand solar power at the same rate, in another six years they will be getting more electricity from solar power than the UK gets from its nuclear power stations, says Professor Barnham.

a sign of things to come? will the giant windfarms be a thing of the past then? please note about the changes in planning permissions.....i wonder if this only applies to personal wind turbines or to wind farms too......

I have thought for some time that huge wind turbines are soon going to be obsolete the way technology is advancing and it's good to see people talking more about micro-renewables. At a CREF meeting last year we were told that all these things - solar panels, small turbines etc. - will become much cheaper this year and it's high time our dozy governments took some sensible action for a change. Don't know if you saw the Sally Magnusson programme on tv but I was also pleased to see someone there emphasising the need for energy conservation - another area that will probably need legislation since people seem unwilling to do it voluntarily.

I stayed in a little cottage on the Suffolk coast over 20 years ago which was powered by a tiny turbine on the roof. Why has it taken so long to progress these things? Other European countries are way ahead of the UK.

Thanks for the link - neat little turbine. Wouldn't mind one of those.

Take a look at these two sites for some information on domestic electricity power production
http://www.windsave.com/WS1000.htm
http://www.renewabledevices.com/swift/index.htm

For information on how much the Government are keen to help people in their efforts to save energy check the Grants they are offering
http://www.clear-skies.org/

See what you think about the concern they are howing and the help they are willing to offer.

It would be great if more people went for solar and wind power but also doing your own water system. Think of all the money you would save - and think about what the big multnationals would lose.

All this talk recently about renewable energy, has anyone wondered if it might be a coverup for the fact that Dounreay might be earmarked as one of the next generation nuclear power stations that the government seems to be wittering on about?

The windfarms are just a cover for the reemergence of nuclear energy in the far north......
