I've had quite a few PMs from people confused about the AVG upgrade message which, when clicked, only seems to give them the option to upgrade to the paid version, not to the latest free edition. However if you follow through the options there is a link there for the free version but it's not so obvious, as they would prefer you part with your hard earned!
So, for anyone with AVG Free edition who haven't yet used the automatic upgrade facility, you can download and install the latest 8.5 free version here (http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-10044820&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11014801).
To check what version you are currently on, double click the AVG icon by the clock then look in the blue bar down the left hand side - under the Statistics heading the AVG version should show as 8.5.xxx if you have the latest one.
