Didn't relise that one of the main police officers involved in the Jack the Ripper case was a Chief Inspector Donald Sutherland Swanson. Born in Thurso. You learn something new every day.

He lived at Geise and was a teacher in Thurso before joining the police.

He was involved in other famous cases but it is for 'Jack The Ripper' that he has entered history featuring prominently in most of the plethora of books about the case.

He all but named the perpetrator in the 'marginalia' and it must always be the police suspects at the time that 'Ripperologists' research and rule out first.
