On the way home from Scotland today I decided to detour from my journey and visit the National Memorial Arboretum, within which is the Armed Forces Memorial. It's a great place to visit but allow at least 2 hours for your visit should you manage to get there. The Arboretum was established in 1997 so it is still maturing and being shaped but will be a wonderful sight once it's done so. It's also a very humbling and emotional place to visit, though a long overdue thanks from a grateful Nation. http://www.nationalmemorialarboretum.org/

The gap in the wall is for a shaft of light to pass through on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Good morning and thank you for the super set of photos and the link to further information. I read through it and really like the way the tree species and numbers are linked to people/events etc The gap in the wall is very poignant.
I have seen similar monuments in other countries The Liberty Monument in Nicosia comes to mind.

This particular memorial amazes me because it's been around the world and erected & dismantled a few times. I had never heard of Changi until our own changilass mentioned recently on the org it's where her name comes from.

This is a sundial based on the world atlas but unfortunately the photograph didn't pick up the coastlines too well.
