Does anyone know why the Easter Egg Hunt at Dunnet Forest was canceled?

We have reluctantly had to cancel it because of the apparent 'dog poo' issue in the forest. We thought after the recent publicity that it would be irresponsible for a nursery to stage an event for families with young children where there is such an imposing health risk at the moment. I go to the forest a lot with the kids and I certainly wouldn't want to be rifling around in the grass for eggs and come out covered in brown sticky stuff.

It was myself who organised the event in the past and I am very sad to have resorted to cancelling it.

To avoid disappointment, we are holding an Easter Fete in the new Mey Hall with a similiar theme, of course it will not be a hunt but it will be a lot cleaner. All the same attractions will be there and it should be just as much fun for the kids.

I hope that no one is too disappointed and that the fete will compensate for this. Sorry :(

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you very much to all the irresponsible dog owners out there who don't clean up their animals cr4p.

I am more upset than anyone that the bairns can't do it as they all have such fantastic fun and the forest is the best place to hold it but I did do a bit of research recently -

It really isn't worth the risk !!

dunnet forest should impose a ban on all dog owners for a month to see if that would make them think about letting their dogs poo all over the forest!!

It really gets on my nerves

Dunnet Forestry Trust are trying hard to rectify the problem. Last Saturday we had Trust Directors on duty in the forest along with the Highland Council Dog Warden. They handed out leaflets warning about the health aspects of leaving dog poo lying around and they also handed out poo bags to anyone who had forgotten to take them. We really hope that irresponsible dog owners are getting the message.

It angers and upsets me to think that two local voluntary organisations have both lost out through no fault of their own. At the end of the day, the forest will have to be cleaned up by volunteers who had no part in making the mess in the first place. If people were more considerate and had a little more respect for their surroundings, then neither of our groups would be in this situation. :(

I was at out there two weeks ago and thought that the place was the cleanest that I have seen it. Fair enough there was a very occasional dog poop but it was a hundred times better than when I have been before.
