This pets forum is an interesting place - its appears full of compassion and caring and yet over the weeks i have dipped in here to look I have found some real unpleasantness. It all seems to be about how people should love their pets. So I ask you How do you love yours? Are they the centre of your world? Pampered, protected and petted? Do you truly prefer your animals to other human beings? Or do you tolerate them or actually not like them very much? What is the right way to love your pet? Please dont be mean to each other I am just curious thats all.

Oh... me? How do i love mine? Well I have to own up to liking our pets and I look after them and care for them but I dont ADORE them. When they die I feel sadness (Except i confess for the posessed hamster i once had) but I have never ever been devastated by the loss of an animal. To me they are animals and not my best friends. I think they are lovely and nice to have around (except for the posessed hamster) but i could just as soon live without them.

Lets not fallout over this guys - its just interesting to me thats all.

I adore my dog and I know he adores me. He's my best friend without a doubt. I rarely go anywhere without him. I miss nights out if I have no one to stay at home with him. I don't go away often as I hate leaving him. He always comes first.

Those sacrifices are worth it to me. I love him to bits :)

I don't know or care if thats the right way to be but thats how it is!

My animals are my world. I have a little dog who is with me the whole time, wherever I go, he goes. In fact he's sat on my feet now! I could never be without my animals. They don't judge me or disaprove of me as many humans do. They are my family.

my animals are also my children. i get attached to them and do what is best for them. I run a balanced home for the animals and kids and i do cry if and when something bad happens. I have always been for animaals more than humans and what you recieve from an animal is unconditional, and they dont answer back. I have my baby, Tank (dog) and would be devastated if anything happened to him. My bunnies are my babies and i have yet do decide wether i would feel bad if my snake died, although i would probably be if they did.:)

I adored my old collie Connie.Unfortunatly she had to be put to sleep last year because of cancer and I still miss her.
My other two dogs are loved, cherished and well looked after but as yet not "adored".

Connie went to hell and back with me and to me was my best friend.

Think maybe you only have one best friend from the animal kingdome and she was and still is mine.:D

I prefer my animals to some humans, I dont over pamper them, they are well loved tho, well exercised and socialised and well fed. they may not be as obedient as Id like some of the time but thats life.
I will be devastated when they die but it wont stop me having more.

i once had a kitten 9-10 years ago. i loved him, he was such a wee character. he came in the van with me aswell. when he had a terrible accident in the house i rushed him to the vets, going through red lights and doing 60mph through town, but saddly he could not be saved. i cried for days after. he really was my baby. he was my first pet all of my own.

I get quite upset when animals die. Even if they are not my own. I love animals, i always have. All i ever remember is asking for new pets to care for.

My cat Fintan is well looked after, quite a bit pampered, he loves sitting cuddling in to me when im watching tv. Meows when i pass him so i give him a quick chin rub aswell. He follows me all around the house.

Jox and Gizmo, well they are loved and cared for as gerbils should be. Jox is calmer than Gizmo. So she will sit in your hands for longer without doin the dirty on yer hand!

All my previous pets have been very well cared for and some spoiled! Lets see what Brenon brings to the family eh! :Razz

What do our animals mean to us? Wow..from our first 2 dogs life changed. As one was a big dog, we needed a bigger car, then because the dogs came on holiday with us..we needed a bigger caravan! The 'big dog' bug had taken hold and the car had 'to grow again'. We then got a horse..bigger car again to tow 'horse taxi', so holidays became less frequent and shorter. At the same time started helping at a pony sanctuary and had no free time or holidays. After 8 years working with the sanctuary and having full time jobs we felt that we needed more space for our growing 'mob'..and us. We ended up bringing 4 sanctuary horses with us as we had been involved with them for so long and couldn't bear to leave them... hard to leave the others behind we also brought 2 dogs,2 cats, 2 guinea pigs too. Since arriving we have inherited 3 more horses..2 came on loan and stayed and 1 belongs to a good friend who was having a hard time..now staying for the foreseeable future. I have been introduced to the world of sheep since living here  and the pet lambs I took on are having their own lambs now! We also have ducks and chucks and thats it.. for now;). We have had heartbreaks and sadness when we've lost any but can't imagine life without them and wouldn't want to they've given us huge pleasure, unconditional friendship and helped us through some tough times, I think you could say they're pretty important to us
As I write this 1 dog is sprawled on the sofa,1 on a chair( OH on the floor!!!) The cats are in front of the fire and horses tucked up in stables...listening to the radio...enough said!!!

My animals are my life, I look after them to the best of my ability and watch over them like a broodie hen with her chicks. I don't pamper them but, I love them from my heart and they love me back.............priceless.:)

This reminds me of me............I have a little pet hen I had to hand rear as mum was taken by a fox. She is now 7 months old and today laid her 8th egg!!!!! Each day she comes in at lunch time and goes into her bed, which is a cat carrier in the kitchen next to the range. Sits for a while and calls when her laying is done then out she comes, has a tasty bite and back outside to play until bed time and she is back in her cat box for the night.:Razz

I have an affinity with animals that I just do not have with humans.
Having said that my dogs are always treated as canines and not human substitutes. I understand their needs, can read their body language and always, always know where I stand with them.
They're loving, loyal and ask no more in return than a balanced, productive life.

I love all our dogs, past and present, but a precious few have been my best friend. Satan who was killed in a RTA, Porsha (my namesake on here) Bailey who died suddenly last year and now Huntly have made more impact than the others. Perhaps it's the personalities, who knows. ( Coincidence that 3 of those are Great Danes?)

When any of them die we grieve as a family (although I don't cry as I don't do crying), we bury them whenever possible and always swear that we'll never get another as none other could compare.
But after the grieving has abated a bit we start to question 'how could we ever not have another Woo Woo?' or 'another Porshie?'.
The biggest testament to the impact they have on our lives is that we cannot ever imagine a life without one.

Sometimes I like the dog best in the house!
She listens and doesnt answer back and doesnt repeat what you say and empathises with me!
The cat does what he likes.............and couldnt care less as long as he is fed:lol:

But I love my kids and hubby more than the animals.

And I got upset when any of my beasties I have had over the years have died.

I read this in the understanding that the quote above is how you feel? If I'm wrong apologies, it can be quite hard sometimes to understand a posters comments properly.

I think that is the difference between a lot of people on the org..... lots see them as 'just animals' others see them as a living being that gives back what we put into them.

The perfect example to me is my family, they like animals but they could easily live without them and just don't seem to understand where I'm coming from. The animals they have had don't come first, ie, holidays come first, nights out etc and the animal goes to a family member or kennels to stay. This isn't a bad thing as I've gone on holiday and left my dogs with a family member, however I wouldn't put them in kennels and if that means no holiday then so be it. I will miss a night out if it means the dogs are left too long and I never leave them for more than a few hours at a time. I cant imagine life without an animal, any animal, ever.... I've always had animals from as long as I can remember and always will.

I will say that my husband and kids do come first but they are also capable of looking after themselves, the dogs cannot feed themselves unless they manage to raid the freezer...
