Went to purchase my tickets to go and see my neice in Aviemore ( 1 adult and 1 child) and was told it would cost me £52.80 day return :o was told all the cheaper tickets were done.
And the government want us to take public transport mmmmmmmm I don't think so. Needless to say we're not going now.

Annie I agree thats a ridiculous amount of money for 1 adult and 1 child, didn't think that it would cost that, mind you its been a while since I have used public transport and at that prices it will be even longer.... ;)

i regularly travel from dingwall to thurso. costs me £12.70 return with a highland railcard. the railcard costs £7.50 i believe and lasts a year. it halfs the cost of all highland journeys. well worth it.

Its a damn site better than air fares..

My Mum and neice were going to visit from Yorkshire in the summer, and the return air fares from Teesside were going to cost in the region of £600.

No wonder a lot of people dont visit Caithness, its cheaper to to abroad. :(

I buy a scotrail card. Its about £7.50 i think. Buying that scot rail card and going to inverness last time i was down was still cheaper than buying without a card.

Think it was about £12 return for adult.

But public transport is charging rediculous prices for wanting us to use public transport more. I dont use buses often, maybe once or twice a year. I either walk, or get a lift from a friend. Its the cheapest options! :confused

when me and my OH and my brother went to glasgow last weekend i booked our tickets in january and managed to get 3 returns for £82.60 but when i called first time it was the tuesday i think the lady in customer services said it would be £90.00 each return but if i called back on the friday it would less than that for all 3
weird how they work it out

I recently travelled to aberdeen for £15 retuern with a British Rail bargain. It was a return anywhere in Scotland for £15. There are so many rail cards available, that is the best option, or an apex fare booked in advance.

dunno if you could also use a family railcard?
my mum and dad have been using them for years to go to newcastle.
saved a fortune. as long as at least 1 adult and 1 child.:)

Yes Fran, the Club 55 ticket is very handy at £15 return, but it only operates at certain times of the year. Unfortunately, not at the moment![disgust]

Was on the train last week, OOOOOOOH how I wish they would do something with the stench in the toilets, surely in this day and age they can come up with something better, I won't mind paying a bit extra for the convenience.....
