I took Friday off work (what fabulous weather for a wander) and decided to visit some new places (inspired by the last camera club presentation - "Out and about with Ralf").

Started off in Wick as I had a few errands there, then went down to Ackergill Harbour/Tower for the first time, followed by Reiss Beach (wow, even more impressive than Dunnet). On Sunday went to Sannick Bay for the first time also with a predictable visit to John O'Groats. Here's a selection.

#1. Wick Bridge

Your certainly bang on form with these photos, really great shots.

Mackays Hotel is my pick of the bunch, love the angle of the shot.

Sannick Bay1,excellent detail and colour in the foreground rocks and a little "deep purple" effect on the water too.

Nice dof with the daffies.Foreground blur highlights the middle ones well.

Great set Deemac! I think my fave is Mackay's Hotel too. I do like Ackergill Tower tho. I like the daffies for the same reason as MPH - love daffies! Reiss beach is great - went there for the first time my last visit and didn't have the camera! :( There was a fab light quality that day too - drat!!!

Deemac,
Personal favourite would have to be Sannick Bay 1, great foreground interest.
Like the Wick Bridge and Ackergill Tower images, Mackays Hotel, like the B & W treatment, but would want to take the wide angle distortion out.

Groats hotel looks very spooky would that work in black and white?
What are the two shots of Sannick Bay like without the water being edited?
Sorry but that always spoils a picture for me.
Great shot of MacKays .

Great shot of MacKays .

Lizz, the smoky water effect is not an edit.

You get this look with a longer exposure time so these images are straight out of the camera. (You need to add a neutral density filter in front of the lens (ND8 & ND4 together) to lengthen the exposure time). Great for that etherial vibe which you either love or hate I suppose.

Thanks folks for your comments. I always love trying out new locations. You tend to have a fresher pairs of eyes. (so to speak!) Was surprised how well the skies came out on Sunday's efforts (Sannick Bay & John O'Groats).

Most of the shots are hand held HDR and long exposure shooting.

Many thanks Deemac for explaining how the effect is achieved.
The more I look at it, the more I like the picture of Reiss Sands looking towards the tower has a timeless quality.

A fabulous set of photos, Deemac! I especially like the ones of Ackergill Tower and the John O'Groats Hotel. They're both very atmospheric.
