Does anyone know where people who died in the poor house would be buried? Where would the records be held?

I was informed by a person whose Father was the warden at one time that inmates who died in Braehungie Poorhouse were buried in the Common Ground at Latheron Cemetery unless there was family with the means to bury them elsewhere.
I believe that the Latheron Cemetery records were destroyed in a fire some time back.

Hope this helps.

Hi
Just occasionally someone who died in poorhouse could also have had a stone in Cem - erected by another member of family. I found one such case recently. Pauper in the poorhouse but someone cared enough to place a stone :)

Let us have a surname date etc - we can check MI books I have but also for Latheron check here www.graven-images.org.uk

Someone has this tree on ancestry - I guess it may well be yourself.

Sorry I can't find a MI entry in the books for any cems near Latheron and since he was born there I imagine he would be buried there.

Thanks for that and yes it is my tree or perhaps a relative as I have found a number of distant cousins through this line.

His death was reported by a Donald McKenzie the governor of the Poorhouse. He doesn't seem to be a relative but I would be interested to know more about him in case there is a link.

I am also curious about the others listed in the census as the family doesn't seem to be wealthy enough to entertain visitors and I wonder if they were relatives that had to be taken in.

don't know what the relationship is to McKenzie but Emily Forbes and Hugh Hendeson in 1841 household are
here in 1851, It say Emily is a widow? but not in 1861

Emily and daughters still there in 1861 although states she is Unmarried.
and son Hugh is now married.
Emily could be daughter to James Forbes b Latheron 1814.
