trying to think of different places to go with camera but need some inspiration.

I would love it if the Lake District was just down the road or Loch Ness/Lomand were just a couple of miles out of town

Where is there in Caithness thats got photogenic scenery that we haven't seen in this section yet??

thinking caps on folks

dragonfly,

A question I often ask myself, so, here's my thoughts, East coast, certainly somewhere I need to explore more of inland Caithness, again not my usual hunting ground.

Particular locations I have in mind are Berridale Harbour, Dunbeath Harbour, Scarlet Harbour, Staxigoe Harbour I would also like to get over to Stroma sometime, the problem is if a sit and look at a map the list just gets longer!

On a fine evening, when the light is good exploring roads I've never been down is one of my techniques, haven't managed to get lost yet, although sometimes I have to look at a map when I get home so I can find the place again.

We just tend to just wander and see what catches our eye, with the varying light and weather conditions the views change on a daily basis.
1 place that I want to go back to is Scotland Haven and have yet to take the walk out to St John's Head also having checked the tides, we often go a ramble along the less accessable shores.
Take a look around your feet, often some amazing mosses, plants and colours and a walk through any forrested area can throw up some very interesting shots.

Travel west, the scenery is stunning all the way along the north coast road, through Tongue across the causeway, or via the old road around Kinloch. Or you could go from Tongue down the Lairg road and marvel at the stunning views of Ben Loyal and Loch Loyal. I could go on and on, who needs the Lake District or Lomond?

Here's a few photo's to wet your whistle.

I have many more from this beautiful area, subject matter is no problem, it's everywhere you look.

Caithness has some fantastic scenery, but can at times be a bit flat. But Braemore is very photogenic, as is Berriedale. Just get off the main road for a few miles anywhere in the county and you should get good photos. Explore all the wee harbours too.
Slightly further out and Bettyhill has nice scenery, and by far the best is Tongue and Ben Loyal. It is different every hour.
If you like to walk, you get a brilliant view from the top of Ben Bhraggie, or you can drive down by Rogart and back round to Brora coming over East Langwell,Balnacoil and Gordonbush, lovely countryside.
Another nice run is to go over Glen Loth and come out at Kildonan railway station, there are some lovely views of Morven on a good day.
All the best.!!

Go to Dunbeath and you can walk up the Strath, you can take the dogs and will need good boots on. JD says go to Latheron Wheel harbour cross the old bridge and follow the track, have to watch the dogs sometimes sheep about and a huge hole in the ground, although it could be an interesting subject if you have a head for heights and you can see the waves crashing on the rocks below!! If I think of anything else will let you know.
