If you are down Inverness/Nairn/Elgin way the Bumbles play area just off the A96 shortly after Brodie Countryfare is just fantastic for kids. Only £2 for an hour and there is a seated area for parents and they do really good soup, sandwiches, home baking etc. There is a wee selection of birds and small animals too and in the summer there is an outside play area too.
It is just a pity that Caithness doesn't have something like that.
