Melancholy Man

I could probably work it out myself but what prompted your comment about audit books?

The Mariam Appeal, the books for which he would have us believe have been lost in Iraq, just as he professed surprise at all that money which passed through his then wife's bank account. Of course, he could always go to Iraq to look them out... but he won't. In fact, he hasn't been to Iraq since 2003.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the overthrow of his late friend - the one whom he told us, on Big Brother, had looked him in the eye and said he had no W.M.D. - and instillation of a Government which may take dim views of those who lavished praise on a man who, amongst other acts, ordered the executions of dozens of civilians for a failed assassination attempt; and his rapist/murderer son.

The thing to remember about Dod is that he's notoriously litegous and will sue at any negative comment towards his financial and personal records. Thus, it's necessary to watch what one says. That said, he doesn't appear to have sued over allegations that he acted as a go-between for influential A-Q figures and purchased logistical equippment used in the 1998 East Africa bombings.

Now that another Charity Commission investigation has been launched into Something George Galloway Has Done - the monies raised for Viva Palestina and his handing a large sum directly to the political leaders of a proscribed terrorist organization - I wonder if we'll find out who paid for his numerous flights back to Blighty during that Children's Crusade.

He does have a record of delivering inconsistent information to the Charity Commission:

(F) THE FINANCIAL RECORDS OF THE APPEAL
146. According to Mr Galloway in testimony to the Charity Commission, the books and records of the Mariam Appeal were transferred to Jordan and Baghdad on Mr Zureikat becoming Chairman of the Appeal. In a letter of 13 April 2004 to the Commission, Mr Galloway’s solicitors said on behalf of their client:
“. . .the majority of the documents relating to the Mariam Appeal and the treatment of Mariam Hamza are not currently in the possession of Mr Galloway or Dr Amineh Abu-Zayyad. The documents were handed to Fawaz Zureikat by the Mariam Appeal’s Vice Chairman, Stuart Halford, when he took over the role of Chairman from Mr Galloway and the Appeal’s London office was closed down and moved to Baghdad in mid 2001. The documents are now in either Baghdad or Amman and are not currently traceable due to the unsettled political situation in Iraq and Jordan.”[256]
147. When I put this explanation to Mr Halford he replied:
“I would like to reiterate that at no time were the records of the Mariam Appeal handed over by me to Fawaz Zureikat or indeed sent by me to him. As far as I can recollect only two or three A4 envelopes were ever sent by me to Fawaz Zureikat by FedEx to his business address in Jordan. These contained letterheads and basic campaign literature but nothing that could be deemed ‘records’ of the Mariam Appeal. As I previously said Mr Galloway himself may well have handed over records/documents of the Mariam Appeal to Fawaz Zureikat but again I reiterate that if this was the case the records/documents in question did not include any material that I ever knew about or was in my possession. As far as I am concerned it seems that George Galloway has misled his lawyers on this point. As I have already explained George Galloway asked me to get rid of the Mariam Appeal records I held. These records did not include anything of a sensitive nature and I knew that some of them could be replaced. I did as I was told as George Galloway was my boss.” (http://%5BURL%5Dhttp://www.parliament.the-stationery-office.com/pa/cm200607/cmselect/cmstnprv/909/90905.htm%5B/URL%5D)
He understands gesture politics very well but he'll never change what he could have changed in politics if he wasn't so self-centred and demanding of attention and in that sense he's a failure. He's been a stunning success in his chosen field: promoting George Galloway. People who understood only "gesture politics" were S.W.P. bods under John Rees and Linsay German who thought they were onto something 'citing in allying with Galloway and religious high conservatives of Respect!, only to find themselves being hog-tied and tossed off roofs at Tower Hamlets, so to speak. They didn't even know how to register a political party name.

All the same, he very almost came a cropper (and may still do) after making unfounded allegations (http://www.socialistunity.com/?p=3531) against a Metropolian Police officer named Christopher Dreyfus, whom Galloway alleged he'd seen engaging in street-thuggery.

A Police named Dreyfus. A Jewish Police named Dreyfus. Unfounded allegations against a Jewish Police named Dreyfus. Then, to top it all, a pro-Galloway blog published it under the headline "J'accuse, Dreyfus".

Seriously. Did no-one have an impending sense of dread about that one???
