external laptop mouse

i disconnected my laptop mouse while away....set it up last night...not working...can anyone help???please..

If its a wired mouse u just plug it and and restart the laptop and if its a wirless mouse is the batterys flat and if not is there not a button underneath the mouse u press to match everything up
