Was chatting today to a friend, and we got on the morbid subject of songs that folk have playing at their funeral's, now if you were unfortunate enough, to be seriously ill and you knew there was no hope of recovery, would you pick a certain song to be played at your service, if so what would it be, or would you leave it to your family to pick.

This not an uncommon conversation. I recall one such conversation when a young lady announced that she was going to get "I will survive" played. And was quite annoyed when we all fell about laughing.

Hmm hard one. Probably Hurt by Johnny Cash and Always look on the bright side of life. But there are so many classical pieces I love that I think I would have to have a death party lol

....... Always look on the bright side of life.
My brother had that one at his service. Certainly cheered us all up at a rather sad moment. Typical of him.

I would possibly have... Angel of the Morning by PP Arnold and
Don't cry by Guns and Roses.
But then again it would depend when the big event was as my music tastes may change.

Goodbye My Friend - Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville.

I played this on the radio one night and couldn't speak for about ten minutes without blubbering.

What hard hitting lyrics that has.

I am tempted to have James Blunt playing, as I want to remind listeners that, wherever you go after death, you are certainly going to a less cruel place ;)

My choices:-

Going Underground - The Jam

Funeral Pyre - The Jam (Alternative method) or Old Flames - Dolly Parton

Living In a Box - Living In a Box

Down Down - Status Quo

I'm Alive - The Hollies

Abracadavera - Steve Miller Band

'Free bird' by Lynard Skynard.

I challenge if any of the congregation aren't tapping their foot or air guitaring by the end of it then I am gonna haunt them.

I'll be having The Misfit's "Dig Up Her Bones" played when the wife pops her clogs. I'm sure I'd miss her awfully.

Hey i love that song too - not heard it in ages. My OH also loves Deacon Blue!! ;) If I wanted to play a sad song at my funeral it would have to be "Always" by BonJovi or there's a really sad song by Michael Buble(who my hubby hates so he'd refuse to play it!) Oh yes it's called "Home". I like that one too.

I don't like sad songs. My nearest and dearest have been informed that when I finally shuffle off and leave them in peace, they must play Urban Spaceman by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, as I go up in smoke. I'm putting it in writing, too, just in case they forget.

My four pipe marches are listed along with the instructions for my burial and my will. Hopefully all a bit premature and I dont really know if there will be a piper around or anyone will be bothered to carry me to the cemetary when the day comes !.
Nobody dare say sad old bustard !.

No sad songs for me, I'm insisting on Irving Berlins "Cheek to cheek" as performed by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

Oh no richman, either Dylan's original or Warren Zevon's version (from the album "The Wind", recorded while he knew he was dying). GNR's is OK but not a patch on either of those.
