It seems for once that Tesco have not been able to Bully the councillers in giving them permission to open in Tain.
The Councillors voted against Them over traffic Issues.
Hopefully the same will happen when there plans come up for The new store they wish in Thurso.
The Traffic problems in Ormile Road will just be as bad as the issues with Traffic in Tain.
Perhaps ASDA will now take notice that Tesco do not always get there way and come Back with there Plans to open in Thurso and Tain.
As we all know we would of had ASDA here by now if it was not for certain councillors

This does Not Compute. If Tesco get Planning Permission Refused due to Traffic Problems that a Supermarket would cause. Then what makes you think that ASDA would get Planning Permission as there would be exactly the same Traffic Problems.

The locations in Tain and Ormlie Road are as different as they possibly could be. The access to Tesco's Tain site would literally have to be a very strict 'one way' and even then would not be easy for delivery trucks or customer vehicles - unless of course most of Tain's historic buildings were torn down to make roadways.
Ormlie Road, Thurso, on the other hand has a variety of access options either at the Railway Station or anywhere between the Station & Thurso High School. The original poster displays a distinct lack of geographical knowledge about either site.
Certainly it is good to see that not all Highland Councillors are totally beholden to Tesco.

TESCO is seeking legal advice after its detailed planning proposals for a multi-million pound supermarket and filling station in Tain were thrown out today.

At an often rowdy meeting in Tain attended by scores of members of the public, councillors controversially went against the recommendation of planning officials – despite warnings it would almost certainly result in the supermarket giant launching an appeal. etc etc it's here:

"The Traffic problems in Ormile Road will just be as bad as the issues with Traffic in Tain" Hmm, that's all been looked into with the Scottish Reporter?

Passed Tain yesterday afternoon on the by-pass and the "Barr" signs are up for their access directions. Thought from that the Tesco was going ahead.

Maybe Asda pay more to the councillors?
