In my newly re-elevated state to trusted member I ask a question hoping that I might receive a trustworthy answer.
What is the charm of Edinburgh gentlemen? My grandmother was captivated by one and now I see Golach gathering a gaggle of gleeful girls to the great Sunday quiz. On the 14th we had 500 women breathless over the dashing Dr.Szin'z Valentine'z Day message.

Is there a limit to the number who can take part in the quiz? Am I still registered?

Ahhhh, I too fell for the charms of an Edinburgh Gentleman many (not too many [smirk] ) years ago, I believe it is a certain aloofness they have, or was it afoolness they have ?.......Trish.:p

Canuck, sorry to tell you I am just a plain Caithness boyagee, Thursa born an bred, who met a lassie from Leith, and fell in love and settled in Auld Reekie, but you may get extra points on Sunday if you keep up the charm :D

Thanks golach, I think I am beginning to discover some of the finer points of playing in the quiz match.

On a serious note, is "boyagee" a word? Does it mean anything more than "boy"? weeboyagee's user name makes sense now. Thanks.

Canuck, Biyagees or boyagees and Lassigies are old Caithness words for Boys and Girls not sure of the right spelling

Thanks. It sounds like a Norse influence rather than a Gaelic one.
Next question: in pronouncing it where does the emphasis go?

See you on Sunday then Rheghead.

Ooooh Golach - how could I resist then ??;) But I'll sit next to Canuck in case you get grumpy - us lassigies must stick together. Won't be the same without Connie though. See you all Sunday.

Moira - I'll save you a seat. Are you the one who brings the cake to these quiz events? I will bring along some glasses of fruit. This quiz is becoming a ceilgh. Golach, do you yet sense that you are loosing some control?

Caoran - Thank you. Also, I love your signature. It was a favorite expression of my grandmother's (the Glasgow one, not the Szinszinatti one who married my Edinburgh grandfather.)

Can anyone join in the quiz? What categories do you usually have? What level of knowledge is required (i.e. am I gonna make a prat of mesel :) )?

Hi bobinovich

I am not the quizmaster, but my experience suggests that anyone can join. The real issue is not knowledge as much as quick typing skills, having a fast connection and being fairly close to the server. At 5000 miles away I get routed all over the place and have been known to have an answer appear after a new question is posted. But it is still a fun time. In fact that is the major goal, fun. No one really wants to win because the prize is setting the next quiz. We have normally had 20 questions, although tomorrow I think that the plan is to have 15. If that is the case they may be more difficult. The questions cover a broad range of topics from music, to history, to architecture, to geography, to sports. Give it a go, I did and I have made some wonderful friends even though I have never actually met them.

Good luck.

Do we have a time when the doors to the room will be open? Moira, wickerinca and I have some setting up to do.

(Sorry Bobinovich, we talk in terms of actually being there. Of course we aren't. W and I both live in Canada, M in Wick itself.)

Cheers Canuck, I hope to 'see' you tomorrow night if I get a little peace & quiet, as well as getting on the PC of course!

See you then. It is mid-afternoon for me. We will keep a place ready for you. On the screen we are each assigned a different colour so it makes the chat aspect go quite smoothly. You can have a conversation if you just look for the colours you are talking to. The questions appear from time to time in pink type. You can ignore them and go on talking, or try answering them.

YES, the quiz is for any and every one! The categories are decided by the quizmaster, the questions are wide and varied in nature and difficulty. The main objective, however, is having a laugh or two or twenty, and no one ever makes a prat of themselves at the quiz...don't worry! Just come and have fun.
