Pleased all went well Ash.

Yes, the children`s ward is superb. My only recent dealings with them was when my autistic great nephew was in to get a "foreign body" removed from his ear. Staff were superb and realised we were part of the support network and being on the ward with him was no problem.

Previous experience of children`s ward was when it was in the RNI in the 1970`s when I worked there and it was run like a military operation!

Changed days indeed, and all for the better.

Mini changi is due to go in at the back end of next month for gromits in and tonsills out, he is looking forward to it but I am dreading it.

We go next week for him to see the ward and meet the nurses, he thinks its a big adventure.

my daughter was like that all excited but me god what a mess i was, i was calm until i took her up to theatre, i know they do it everyday but its still a hard thing to see your child go thru, is it Mr Cain who is doing the grommets, he is lovely, all the staff are, he/she will be well looked after

Wish I could agree, my 4 year old daughter was in for over a week last December and even though the majority of the staff were excellent, the attitudes of the other ones were awful. I have made a complaint as has another mother that was in with her daughter at the same time.

My son was in for a week last may after a accident, thay were all realy good with him, and even with us, we stayed in the hospital in a seperate part, and they phoned when he needed us and let us stay by his bedside etc.

They do a great job, they made a very difficult time easier.

Mini Changi is going in on thursday for 2 whole nights and really looking forward to it, we obviously sold it to him really well lol.

The staff were great when he went in for his pre op meeting, he can't wait to drive the bike up to the lifts and have his ice cream when he wakes up. Me on the other hand is dreading it

I have to agree with KS my experience was awful!
I had 2 of my children admitted at the same time, we got there in the early hours of the morning after being transferred from Caithness & the staff were awful from the minute we got there. One nurse in particular kept shouting at my daughter which upset her enormously! wouldnt like to see what sort of treatment they gave to kids who werent seriously ill:eek:

I have to say i am shocked at the two negative posts about the childrens ward, as when we were in they were truely lovely and amazing, before my daughter went for her op, the nursery nurse who was there said she would make her play dough, so wen my daughter came back from theatre she had made the two colours of dough she had asked for, and as soon as she was up to it, she was up playing with it, something soo simple but lovely

totally disagree here, wouldnt want to have my baby in the maternity bit in raigmore, not exactly high on patient care, was there with my eldest and my youngest and to say the treatment was equally as bad both times, now with my 3 year old i was in aberdeen to have him and the care was brilliant, but i cant fault wick though had my other 3 there thankfully, the eldest and the youngest hung on long enough to be born in wick in the end.

you may disagree but you have no idea how badly I was treated in wick and how excellent the care I received in raigmore was

I had both my children in Raigmore Hospital and I couldn't off been happier with the treatment I received or the treament my baby received, they were all brill in ward 9 & 10 and especially the staff in the Special Baby Care Unit, they were fantastic, I will be going to Raigmore Hospital to have my next baby and I must say I hope my experience doesn't change, which I'm sure it won't.. My youngest was taken to Raigmore Hospital not Christmas past but the one before, she was only 9 week old and the staff in the Children's wards couldn't off been more helpful, we got to stay in MacDonald house which is just off the Childrens wards.... It is great that they have such a place for parents and your room has a phone in it so you can be contacted thro the night if needed and all they ask is a donation... :D

not everyone has the same experiences

I remember being in excruciating pain & ringing for a midwife to get me pain relief & an auxiliary coming to tell me there was no midwife available as they were both in the labour room & she wasnt allowed to get me any pain relief so I would have to wait! I had to wait 2 hours!!
I know everyone has different experiences & it all depends on the midwives who are on shift, the work load they have & how stressed they are. The fact they are only set up to deal with one person giving birth at a time doesnt help.

You were lucky, when we were there the play nurses only twice did something with the kids, since we were there for over a week I thought that was quite poor.

I think it must have been the wrong time of year as they spent a lot of their time putting up christmas decorations and lights.

They weren't even keen to keep an eye on my daughter when I would pop out for something to eat. Not sure if it was the nurses or play nurses that you should be asking when you had to go out, but they on more than one occasion asked people to get some of the other mothers to look to them! You didn't really like giving that responsibility to another mother that already has their kid to look after so would end up skipping meals.

I too cant praise the staff eneogh for the attention and care myself and my sick baby received.
My youngest was only 8 weeks old away back in 1991 when we first were sent through.
At the time all her obs were too fast and she just couldnt settle when layed down.

I was on my own when the tests confimed she was in heart failure and they suspected a hole.
Those nurses held me together when I thought I'd fall apart.:~(

Many trips later and two helicopter rides she was fixed when she was 9 months old.:D

The nursing staff in all the hospitals I've been too, gave me my voice to challange the consultants.Without their insistence that what I was being told wasnt right maybe the outcome would have been different.

In my opinion Doctors are only as good as the nurses that work with them and not for them.
