Hi folks,
Was out and about on Saturday afternoon looking for inspiration. The light and cloud cover was uninspiring. Anyway thought I'd have another go at the Castletown harbour area. Here are some of my efforts. C&C most welcome.

Great set of photos Deemac,No1 is superb, wonderful shades and detail on the wall which seems to draw my eye to sky and the bright patch just on the corner of the wall.

The colour highlights on No2 work really well,is there a proper photographic term for that sort of technique?

Love the wall in first pic but I don't like the spray - did you do something to it? Feels perhaps just too dark to be right for me - but hey just my opinion. No 2 if fab - wi the buoys picked out! :)

Love number 2, but I would have preferred 2/3rds sky to 1/3rd rock in number 1.

Deemac,

Like the first one, but I agree with wifie, the spray should be lighter.
Like the composition of the boat, but not the treatment, I think the colours in "Halcyon's" hull are so good it's a pity not to show them.

Thanks for all the comments folks. Good to see a range of ideas.

The spray is pretty much straight out the box. I did some D&B to "shape" the larger white areas more and darken the rocks and water in areas. The sky has been replaced with something more moody and interesting.

The boat treatment was just what I was after (sorry, don't know what you would call this treatment, other than selective colour). Yes, its also a fine image in full colour (I did swither on keeping the sea full colour as well), but even when I was taking the shot I knew all I wanted was the colour of the bouys and their reflections (hence the composition) and everything else B&W.

It was one of those "this will be a struggle to get a reasonable image" sort of day and for me these three stuck out as having the best potential.

I'll try a "B-list" selection if I get time. (invariably people seem to like these better!! - hey, what do I know?):Razz

I like the wall - cos those walls are clever made. Bitty dark for me tho! Love no 2 the one on the left has a face but shame it isn't on it's own. I like the chain!

Deemac,
Like the first of the second batch, the two bollards is an image I keep trying, the textures in the bollards are beautiful, and shown to their best in your b&w, I find getting the right background is difficult.

NL - Thanks, yes I should have used a wider lens for the bollards shot as the concrete one is falling out the bottom on my effort. Next time I'll put in more effort. I'm still exclusively playing with the 70-200mm just now (hey, shiny new toys have to be played with at the expense of everything else!!)

Thanks also for BJ and Wifie's comments

Deemac,
You've reminded me I took a photograph of the bollards one lunchtime last week. The photos from this session had not yet been edited.

Lovely shot NL. I do think Wifie is on to something regarding the "face" on the wooden post tho.

Any more photographic contributions from this area anyone?

That concrete bollard is annoying me! Even in yer pic NL the tiny bit of yellow moss (?) on it is just irritating - looks fine round the bottom! LOL who'd have thought there was so much mileage in bollards? ;)

Wifie,

I'll try and remeber to take a scrubbing brush and a bucket of hot water next time I photograph it.

It certainly has an Easter Island kinda feel to it,especially from the angle of Deemacs Shot.

Great pics of the harbour Deemac and North Light...

I`m sure I took some shots down there some time ago but can`t seem to find them now... good reason to go and take some more me thinks... :p

Love the "Easter Island" post... it really does look like one of those faces.
