Im looking for cheap accomodation in aviemore for 2 adults and 2 kids aged 2and1/2yrs and 8 and 1/2mnths. We are willing to take a travel cot with us if need be (but only have 1) as both of us adults are itching to get back on our skis if anyone has suggestions to accomodation and activities to do with small people when not skiing would be appreciated.

thanks!

We just really need somewhere to crash out in, as, at least one of us would be on the slopes all day the other (probably me) would be looking after the kids and shopping or trying out kiddy friendly activites all day to tire out Lauren at least!
It seems hard to find somewhere that will take us as the ages of the kids put us in a double room but we would need a double bed and a single plus a cot or a space for a travel cot.

Any ideas??

self catering/ b+b etc...or a caravan??

http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/offers/ahroffers/four-seasons.htm

http://www.aviemore-bunkhouse.com/ has a family room basic self catering

http://www.laterooms.com/ you can sometimes pick up a bargain hotel using laterooms. We have used it a lot and found bargains in and around Aviemore, Granton on Spey etc. Alway been able to find family rooms. Double + 2 single beds. The other option is a travel lodge in Inverness.

Take the kids to Kincraig wildlife park a great day out for the non skier. Landmark at carrbridge has a limited amount to do during the winter it is fab during the summer though.

Some hotels will provide a travel cot free of charge to save you taking one with you. I cannot remember off hand which ones have done this for us in the past.

To keep the kids happy when your not Skiing there is the Fun House a kids soft play complex beside the Hilton at Coylumbridge, not far from Aviemore, you sometimes get decent deals at the hotel as well.

The Academy hotel (part of the macdonald lot) has family rooms, (double and 2 singles) and you get use of the pool with a wee slide. The rooms also have a ski locker.

There is a park at the macdonald resort bit that is fun for the kids and free.

If there is lots of snow, there is a hill, (the hayfield) just before the snowgates going up the mountain, that is great for sledging.

There is also a reindeer centre on that road that is a good wee outing.

Have fun

We know all about the hayfield and the reindeer park...and I can remember the ice rink and go karts from school trips  sadly missed now!
But I am struggling to think of things to do with little people (aged 2 and 1/2 and the other 8 mths) while hubby skis so he may not get to go anyway!

I am sure there are plans in discussion about building a new ice rink in Aviemore but I dont know if the credit crunch has put paid to that. I can remeber using the ice go-karts on the old rink before they demolished it all. It was great fun.

I would suggest you get the Hubby to stay at home and you head away for a day on the piste by yourself ;). then let him away another day by himself :) Save accomodation costs etc. At 2 1/2 its old enough to do plenty things we had our wee one playing around on plastic skis at that age. However not so easy with an 8 month old.

I suggested that I could go shopping in Inverness for the day with the kids but it would be a more expensive option:lol:
