It is getting very close to Valentine's Day and this has got me wondering.

What is Love?

I have always thought, I know what Love is, but I would like to hear what all you orgers out there class as Love. Is Love just LUST or is the only real Love a "Mothers Love", or something completely different.

I would say love is a deep intense feeling of affection towards someone. If that someone is a spouse or partner the love is very much conditional and will have a romantic connection but if the love is for a parent or child then the love will usually be unconditional even though there may be times you could throttle one or the other.

Love is what you feel when despite your partner doing or saying something that cuts you to the core... you still look at them and think...'cor!' and forgive them.

Love for me is that when i see my partner my heart skips a beat and i still get butterflys after 2 years (might not seem much) but knowing that beat means my love is still as strong as ever! And that beat also means i know i am going to be with him forever. :)

Everybody has their own meaning of love i suppose! Different people get different feelings!

Love is feeling that your life is not complete without the other half of you. I still feel like this when I am apart from my husband. Getting butterflies knowing that you will see them soon.

Mother(parental) Love is entirely different, its the thought that you are a barrier between them and the world and woe betide anyone that crosses that barrier. You would die for them and protect them against whatever happens.

And some get no feelings at all (or have never met the right person).

Never had the first..............and as to the second...............only if what has happened hasn't caused them to hurt somebody else unnecessarily. I'd protect my kids and grandkids only in as far as their actions warranted it....but I'd love them in spite of it.

i agree with you gleeber.also i dont buy into this valentines day commercialism ,its just another money making ploy.if you truly love someone you can tell them without lining someone elses pocket. you can have special moments without the need to spend money

Sometimes forbidden, or unrequited
A lingering touch gets the heart excited
Or fatal attraction, it sets the pulse racing
A thickening fog, all embracing
The calm of the forest or stormiest seas
Lovers entwined yet weak at the knees
Euphoria, the heightened emotion
No denying that beautiful notion
Calling you, beckoning you, taste the desire
Erupting volcano, consumed by fire
A brief flirtation or laughing along
Opening up to the wondrous song
Hidden depths, ours to explore
That's the feeling of amour

From Kalil Gibran:-

Then said Almitra, "Speak to us of Love."
And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said:
When love beckons to you follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.
All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.
But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Never taking someone for granted. That's what love is to me. And never using that worn out phrase, "I know you better than you know yourself", cos it aint true!!!
That's the wonderful thing about human beings: they are a constant source of wonder and surprise, wouldn't have it any other way!

What is Love?

For me its the bond between lovers, when you know they are there through thick and thin, makes you laugh, keeps u safe, when after ten years you still get excited seeing each other, still bring something new to the relationship.

In life you may only get one chance at love, and if you dont find the right person then you are letting your heart down. Love is great, just knowing you have someone to share your world with.

Making time for each other is so important, after having children you need you time, making the most of each other.

We only have one word for love in English, but in Greek they have 4 - agape, storge, philia and eros. Agape is principled love - like you'd be willing to die for that person. Storge is love between family members, philia is love between friends and eros is romantic love. Most of us use these different types of love to some extent in our lives. Some use all 4 for one person. I feel that way toward my OH - he's my friend, my family, I love him romantically and I'd die for him if I had to....:p

Angel...

That is so true...

As Howard Jones once sange 'What is love anyway, does anybody love anybody anyway'

Love to me, the unconditional love for my children, is being the best I can be for them, making them happy, providing for them and never letting them down, no matter where they go in life or how old they are it will be my honour to love them until the day I die.

Love is whatever you want it to be! It has so many different meanings! So many different feelings, emotions, definitions!

There is no way someone can describe actual love because it is different from one person to another!!

I love being in love...feeling loved! Wakening up each day knowing that my partner loves me makes me smile!

I can be very cheesey when i want to be! [lol]

Found out what true love is...
when I was pregnant both times...
It is him holding my hair up while I was sick!
Dont think anyone would do that unless they really loved you:lol:
And bringing me breakfast in bed.
