Dempster Street Florist Amanada Coghill will give you the best bouquet money can buy. The flowers you want are grand prix red roses. Well worth the money, £50 ish for a dozen. I have had several bouquets from Amanada as gifts from my OH and they last for ages.

Tesco do them too- and possibly you'll get them plus the champagne and chocolates for the same price as the florist's dozen.

I would imagine a dozen red roses out a florist will be expensive at this time of year tescos would be the cheapest.Does it have to be a dozen red roses?
What i do i just set price in my head then fone the florist and get them to make up a bunch of flowers and get them delivered and job done over one phone call.
The one good thing about buying flowers out of a florist is that there very good at making up bouquets or bunch of flowers

Aaahhh the orgs anual red rose thread! :)

Florists are being hit quite bad just now. The pound isnt working in our favour. Although many people forget about how florists also have to deal with the exchange.
Can also say its not the florists who up the prices but the growers themselves. Prices also go so high because of the demand.

You have to remember that valentines day is world wide, so its not just the UK that wants roses, but America, Australia..yadda yadda. Look at the size of those compared to the UK.

Yes Tesco asda etc etc sell roses..cheaper than what we can buy them in as. However, theyre not grade A , havent been conditioned proper and half the time you're lucky if they are even in water lol.

So...as I did last year, here are my top tips to looking after your roses correctly!

** Keep them away from draughts. They dont like those
** Please do not put them somewhere next to a radiator. They will only shrivel!
** Cut your roses at the diagonal, about an inch up BEFORE you put them into a vase of water.
** Use the flower food provided and follow the instructions on the back.
** Should your roses heads drop ( which they often do, its out of our control) it is most likely due to an air bubble. Wrap your rose tightly in some kind of paper, fill the sink up with water, cut the stem again an inch up and diagonally across, but cut it under the water. Leave it for a couple of hours or over night if possible and then unwrap it
** change your water in your vase every couple of days. Bacteria grows in the water and affects vase life. If you cut your flowers ends every couple of days and change the water you will be amazed at how much longer your flowers will last for.

Red roses are lovely, but at this time of year no mater how much you spend they just dont seem to last, the last bunch I got were £60 and lasted two days!:( I would go for a single one(very romantic to most women) and something else that can be kept as a memento.Or alternatively go for a bouquet of balloons, they last ages and can look fantastic!x

If you needed a toaster, would you be offended if your OH bought you one for Valentine's day?

They have one in Argos which toasts 'i love you' onto the bread.

I'd be annoyed with anyone that spent that much cash on me just for flowers, I can never get roses to last more than just a few days, give me some carnations or crysanths any day, they usually last good three weeks plus.

The best roses (valentines day or otherwise) come in a variety of flavours and are made by CADBURY.

Flowers and chocolates for Valentines day????? One box does both!!

And then some. It could be worse, he could buy her a hoover.[lol]

I knew a bloke (r.i.p) that once bought his girlfriend a hoover for christmas, and she didn't leave him...she loved it, if it wasn't for the fact that she was completely and utterly mental and permanently hyperactive i would have tried to marry her myself

Why is the emphasis put on men to buy women flowers? Don't you think men might like flowers too? So much for equality...hmmph.

Not funny. A cemetery worker lost his job when he stole the roses from my mother's grave.
