I'm assuming you mean at Thurso. I believe it is there as an advisory. The reason there is no red circle is because it is not a compulsary speed limit. The reason it is there is to prevent cars coming out of the cemetary road from being hit by vehicles travelling at speed around the corner into the town. It isn't there on the way out as you can see clearly to the left to see if there are any cars coming in your direction.

Thanks for that, it must be a concern as there is a sign in the first place but the public can still go round the corner at 60 mph, pitty it is not 40 mph pass the turn to Stainland farm coming out of Thurso which is a concern maybe less so, heading west it is 40 mph until the battery factory which makes sense.
How as a member of the public can we change this to a safer speed limit?

You would contact the Highland Council who would carry out an assessment on the area you wish the speed limit to be changed. The police will be consulted as well. If they decide that a change in speed limit is necessary, it will then go through a legal process to finalise decisions.

Give it a go would make sense as Stainland is such a long straight most people are doing 60 mph + coming up to the corner and doing over 30 mph going passed the swimming pool turn off
