Today, Feb 6, marks the 33rd anniversary of Vince Guaraldi's death: one of my all-time musical heroes. Who he? Vince was a jazz pianist from San Francisco who wrote and recorded the soundtrack to the Charlie Brown/ Peanuts TV specials. Noted for writing the first-ever Gold jazz record, the first guy to play a stadium, and one of the first people to have their music played in space, with his trademark handlebar moustache and horn-rimmed glasses, he was also one very cool cat, as the say. Like lots of kids my age, he introduced good, funky jazz to more kids than Miles Davis' A Kind of Blue did for our parents.
