hmmm, considering it took 3 attempts at berthing whilst i was there i would be inclined to say it is weather related, if that;s right, then there'll be a fair few cancellations if the boat can't tie up in 20mph winds - let's hope i'm wrong.

Oh well there's always bound to be a few teething problems to begin with. But I'm dying to go across on it now - can't wait for my next trip to Orkney!! Wonder what the seating area is like inside? Anyone who goes on has to take more pics!!! :D

I'm hoping to do a quick jaunt myself on one of my days off, but no doubt someone will post some before then! she looked to be cutting through the water very smoothly when she headed back to orkney this morning :D

Hi Tugmistress....
Pretty nice fotos.......nice/ bonny boat but high windage, and cat hulls have no 'grip' in the water, thus the wind problem.. perhaps they have a bow thruster......but very modern....and I watched it on AIS....pretty nice 2 c Caithness from 3000 miles away...and remember what the wind is like! Again very well reported.

Great pics Tugs and a lovely looking craft, maybe it stands out more because of where it berths. Like parking a Ferrari next to a dump.:)

It's not quite the same as Venice but we could go across to Orkney together. [lol] (Just don't ask me to serenade you).

Are you having a go at the dock/harbour? No government to pay for all the mod cons remember.
All the money is thrown at another ferry!

I don't think jox is having a go, he is probably saying as he see's it, you have to admit the difference of the new ferry really stands out to the facilities available! and yes i know gills is slowly being done up, he's replaced some of the tarmac and probably other stuff too so quit jumping on people.

Yes. I accept it was a cheap shot however on a similar thread a few months back I applauded the guy for using his own money to fund the service. I used Gills Bay ferry last year and couldn't give a damn about the surroundings, it was cheaper and quicker than using the Scrabster ferry.

All the best to the Pentalina and all who sail in her.

I was at sea for 30 years and am now in ship management. One of the ships I manage was built in the same yard she was and it is well built.

I wish the crew and owners all the luck in the world and hope their venture is both safe and successful.

Bon voyage.

the tarring of the road down to the pier at gills is the responsibility of the council.at least it was them that laid it in the first place
the pier itself could certainly do with a face lift. but again whos responsibility is it tony

biker5

all the work thats been done to the pier has been paid for by andrew banks. the council only have the small pier as far as i am aware but not 100 percent.
