Please does anyone have any information about a Donald Bain b. 1773 who was a surgeon?
His death notice in January 1802 reads:
"In June last, (1801) near St Jago, Savanna, parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, Mr Donald Bain, Surgeon, age 28, from Thurso in Caithness."

I'm trying to find out if there is a connection to my grt grt grandfather John Bain b 1784 in Thurso, who was a surgeon and apothecary. Donald isn't one of John's siblings, but I'm hopeful he may be a cousin.

Because of the gaps in the parish registers and the lack of a will, I've been unable to trace anything about John's parents William Bain (mason) and Betty Miller, so Donald may just be a link.

John was in the army, as was his son, my grt grandfather, also a surgeon. I haven't yet been able to confirm whether or not Donald was a surgeon in the army or navy; if he wasn't, does any kind soul know of any connections between Bains/Thurso and Jamaica?

Any help or suggestions gratefully received! :confused
