What a shame. I only heard him in concert once, at I think the Odeon in Edinburgh. Very fine artist.

Sheesh made me think as he was only a bit younger than me. Sad Day.

Sad news indeed and a sad loss to those who appreciate good musicianship from someone who was indeed unique. I remember watching him play acoustic guitar on Whistle Test when I was a boy - he made it sound like a whole band!

I've been enjoying him on Friday night's Transatlantic Sessions' on BBC 4.
RIP....a character and great voice.

Good obituary in the Torygraph. They may be right-wing nutters at that paper, but that's one thing they do really well.

That’s really sad news. What a loss.

I remember seeing him on the box and going straight out and buying Solid air. With just an acoustic thru some tape loop’s at that time he changed the way i looked at music.

The man was a genius and as geniuses often are he was beset by more than his fair share of demons. He leaves a huge legacy of music and enjoyable memories of good times.

A sad day for music.

Adios John..rest easy

And he was,
he performed almost every weekend at the beer cellar in Shawlands, I met him often, "may you never lay your head down without a hand hold" was a great favourite, he is already missed.
