View Full Version : Red Kites
Coming down the M40 yesterday I was delighted to count fifteen Red Kites,I was aware that there had been a concerted effort to re-introduce them but did n't realise how successful the programme had been.
Will not beat the day when I first watched them glowing red in the sunlight deap in Haffod forrest in mid Wales some 40yrs ago when they were on the seriously endangered list.
Definitely one up for the conservationists.
Only ever seen 2 in Caithness and they were about 5 years apart!
nirofo.
Favourite spotting place of mine - around the Tore roundabout.
Have to agree that area fro Kessock bridge to Tore roundabout seems to be a hotspot.

Brahan estate at Maryburgh near Dingwall is planniing to convert an old barn to a red kite feeding/observation hide. Should be an interesting visit when it gets going.

Have also seen them in the area mentioned, they could have spread from the above.
That should read shame.

That would be great I have always wanted to visit a feeding station. I once though I had one in the distance at Loch Calder but will never know as I lost it, however we do get to see them most trips to Inverness at Tore and sometime just over the bridge to the Black Isle.
