Anyone know how to find out about deaths at sea? My ancestor Donald Macleod, fisherman, died in 1857, but I cannot find a death certificate for him.

Anyone any ideas?

Not sure if this will help or not but it is supposed to be a Register for Deaths in Scotland for the years 1855 to 2006. Have a look and see. :-

PS I think they make a Charge, sorry about that.

If the body was washed ashore then the certificate was produced in that county. I've found a few through the years where this is the case.

If the body was never recovered then there may not be a death certificate at all!

Maybe a wild shot but you could try the local newspaper!
