I plan traveling south from Inverness by train on Friday, returning Sunday. Any sugestions of a suitable parking place near the town centre for my car. Does the council car park do long term parking ?

BM do you mean the old multi-storey at the library or the one in the shopping centre? (I don't know which is behind - cos they kinda both are to me! :confused)

Rose St Car Park - £3 per day - sunday is free so it would be £6 for your stay -

We use Rose Street car park (near the bus station and library) - 24 hour parking, £3 a day - there are instructions on the ticket machines and an office downstairs if you have any queries. I've left the car there when travelling south by train and its easy to drop off and collect. Cheers.
