You should take a photograph to show us all your hard work. I started a celtic cross-stitch in 1996 and it's still only half finished

Well done Kitty Kat it looks really beautiful, especially the beads at the bottom. I too have a cross stitch that I started at least five years ago and haven't finished yet, but have done smaller ones in between. I find it really relaxing and almost addictive!

Does anyone know where to get cross stitch framed in Caithness and roughly how much it would cost?

ive got a flowerfairy i started about 10 years ago and still havent finished!!! also about 3 others ive started cos got a bit bored with fairy for a while, then set them aside aswell. they are all quite large and fiddly with lots of half and quarter stitches. now youve got me thinking i should get on with fairy as i would love to get her finished and framed and up on the wall with other finished ones. ive a castle dragon, and mum&baby that i completed within the last 10 years. however the bathroom tiling is my priority job at the moment, so maybe once thats finished ill start stiching again.

Durrans in Thurso (next to Hallmark card shop) does framing. You can buy a frame from somewhere else and bring it along with you and he'll do the mounting, etc and put it in the frame for you, or you can choose from his own selection of frames. The mounting is only about £3 or £4. I haven't used him myself yet but I hear he is good. I've had my father in law frame my projects, and one of them my gran sent to an art gallery to get framed - it looks really good, but I'd imagine it must have cost her about £30/£40 as it is quite big. The price depends largely on the size of the frame.

That is lovely work!!!!!! Does anyone else have to have the stiches always the same way and have to undo it if you swap the diection of the arms even in one?
I would love to do an Amanda Loverseed chart. I also like Michael Powell patterns alot (He has some free charts on his site: http://www.michaelpowellart.co.uk/ ). They are alot of fun to do. Does anyone else do them?

Not something I do anymore as I find it so difficult to see for close up work. Some beautiful ones on Michael Powells web site. Absolutely gorgeous one of the angel kitty kat. You must be sooooo proud. It doesn't matter how long it took it is the completion of it that matters. Well done to anyone with such "crafty" hands.

Well Done, kitty kat, it's beautiful! The glitter and beads just add that special touch.
Highland Lass, very kindly, did a cross stitch for a friend of mine a few months ago and made a super job of it.
I admire you both and wish I had half your talent.

Guess what, I just finished a cross stitch of a tiger's face. It was dead easy and only took me 3 or 4 weeks. I'm going to frame it myself and put it in the livingroom. My new project I'm working on at the moment is a conversion of a photo into a cross-stitch. It's of me and my two girls walking along the beach in Thurso with the cliffs in the background. It's really beautiful. My mum took it and she's good at photography so she captured the moment really well. It's going to take me ages though because there's almost 60 different thread colours!

Well done kitty kat, i did try it once but could not see it properly, dont know how anyone is going to be able to do this in the future with the energy saving bulbs not enough light to do delicate things. Ett whoaaaaa i do love the tiger you did, well done.

It can be tricky to see the holes when they're very small but most of the ones I've done haven't been too bad. I find as long as I sit near a lamp I have enough light to see. My step-mum-in-law uses a light bulb that looks like real daylight so she can see to do her cross stitch. But my eyes aren't that far gone yet! :Razz

Here's the one my gran had framed for me at an art gallery. I completed it when I was 17 - it took me about a year and a half cos I gave it up for ages then finally finished it! It was my first big project:

That is a lovely piece. You should be very proud. I have had a few cross-stitch framed in the past and they have been stretched out on sticky back board. I believe though for a good one you should stitch them over a frame, sort of like lace it up the back I think, and I don't know if anyone does it up here.

Thanks kittykat, I was pleased with it when I finished it! Felt like a big accomplishment. How long do you think it'll take you to finish your animal cross-stitch? It looks great just now but it'll look fab when it's done! :)

That's the way I frame them when I can't find anyone else to do it for me. A friend who's a pro at cross-stich says that's what she often does - stitching it up at the back to make it nice and taut, then she buys a mount from the man at Durrans and gets a frame cheap from a charity shop (paints it to the right colour, etc) and finally hangs the finished product on the wall!

Wow, beautiful work, kitty kat and your cottages are stunning, ett. A few years ago, I bought a couple of wee, and I do mean wee, needlepoint thingies to work on while I was in Caithness -- they're still over there in a drawer somewhere.
