Just heard on the grape vine they never found the oil theye were looking for ..the rigg closed .and they started to take it down ..and today its nothing but emptyness......

I also heard that they didn't hit any oil on this occasion. However, I also heard that they hadn't given up. Survey showed that it is there...let's hope they find it.

WELL I HEARD ....... no honestly, i did - that they hit hard rock they didn't expect to but they were going to try and drill through it... :confused

I will miss the lights at night, it looked like a Christmas tree. Does anyone know what the ship with the cranes was doing off Lybster, we thought they were putting in more bases for wind turbines but it all seems to have vanished into the mist.

i heard that they hit oily water and that they had stop.because they had spent 26 million on that hole.
I work offshore for a company that specialises in mature fields and low yield wells, not unlike what is expected from the Lybster field.
We have a number of fields around our platform drilled, with known reserves of oil waiting to be taken out of the ground.
A field brought on last year cost $65 per barrel to develop. As long as the oil price was above this level, the field development was profitable.
The current low oil price is causing companies to rethink. I wouldn't be surprised if this had an influence on what was going on at Lybster.
The various figures 30%, 50%, of north sea oil still there might be true, but the fact is at prices below $100 a barrel the vast majority isn't economically viable.

Well it was cold yesterday, and in fact it was that cold, that a solicitor was seen in Wick with his hands in his own pocket, who would of thought!!!!!:confused

They may have seen a solicitor in Wick with his hands in his own pockets but guaranteed he never took them out again with any of his own money in them to hand out to anyone. ;)

Is it not the new oil platform being installed? there was a field drilled there last year , Im sure its to be known as the Jacky field but dont quote me- google it
the main drill wrigg and platform is on its way to lincoln..simpsons is still dismantling the main base unit..or very nearly finished..
