Now the Moon is nice and high in the sky I dusted down my longer focal length (1000mm) refractor to take a closer look. A couple of photos from this evening are below....

..compare this with MPH's shot from a couple of days ago (http://forum.caithness.org/showthread.php?t=64537) to see how quickly the view changes.

And a closer look at one of my favourite areas on the Moon...

To give a sense of scale, the massive crater at the bottom left is Copernicus which has a diameter of approx 56 miles.

Thanks for the kind comments - glad you liked the pics. The second photo just about does justice to the amazing view obtained through the scope.

I must invest in a decent quality barlow lens - it would be good to see what detail could be obtained with a 2000mm equivalent focal length.

Many thanks for the recommendation MPH - does the one you've recommended have a threaded part to allow direct attachment of the T-mount?

I have a cheap barlow that came with my scope - it works OK, but the views through it are notably lacking in sharpness compared to when it's not used, so an upgrade sometime soon is probably on the cards. I had spotted the following ones, but couldn't find any reviews to give an idea if they would improve upon my current situation....
