OMG you have to be sick to do this to an animal, ought to be banned from having any pets.

beleive its done for grooming competitions in the states, goes on here too but not on the same scales. Apparently the dogs like it because they are used to being groomed and like the pampering, certainly the dog doesn't look unhappy :confused

gonna rock the boat here.. *weg* while it IS hideious and ugly.. hardly animal cruelty.. they use natural things to color the fur, that is not harmful at all... (was reading about this randomly one day!) and its just a cut, an ugly one but a cut none the less.
dogs get groomed and cut every day.
hey, we get our hair cut and colored everyday!
and ive seen some really freaky ones out there.
im sure the dog could actually care less!
i will probably have peta at my door for this post, but i dont really see it as a big deal
bad taste yes, most def!
but cruelty.. nahhh.. if someone wants to food color their poodle, and look a fool,
well thats their choice..

'friad I'm leaning towards Brandy's view.

There are far worse things that happen to dogs that truely are cruel, these dogs are used to being groomed so therefore its normal for them and its probably what they love, my own labrador comes running to me when he sees the dog brush as he loves it.

what i have posted is a picture from a groomers competition where groomers get the chance to show the skills they have, its just not what we are used to seeing running around the riverside or on the beaches up here ;)

Oh dear - wish there was a 'tongue in cheek' smiley, I was being ever so slightly sarky when I said it was 'cruel':lol:

WOW!!!!.... Really don't know what to say..............Maybe, if it don't hurt the dog and they are happy, then where's the harm:Razz

It's certainly not cruel. Each to their own I say, it's just creative expression and if it doesn't affect the dog in any negative way then I don't see any harm in it.
Mind you, I wouldn't be seen dead walking it down the road. I already stick to night time walking after I've given our Shih Tzu a regular old haircut, can't imagine the embarrassment that that kind of hair do involves. Still, I don't suppose the dog cares, fortunately for them they're not as vain as us humans.

I must say the black clipped one in Brandy's pictures looks quite stunning.

As far as i remember reading somewhere a long time ago, the sort of poodle cut which was common about 30/40 years ago was to help them swim as they were used traditionally as fowling retriever dogs in France.
It's obviously moved on to a fashion statement of some sort now.
I don't think it's cruel tough.
If you want to see cruel, try watching the Animal Cops Houston/Phoenix TV progs on Sky!
Some heartbreaking stories on there!:~(
