Once again I am on the lookout for information to help me get my grandpa an original Christmas Present. Ideally a DVD or a book which is mainly pictures(as at 100 years old his eyesight is not so good for reading) of Wick and surrounding area?

Does anyone have any ideas please

Thanks

Try Caithness Connectiosn from Ross Records
The DVD or video has scenes of Caithness set to local Caithness musicians playing traditional tunes
See http://www.rossrecords.com/index.php?select=2407&type=2&productid=668

More local traditional music from Bobby Coghill or comedy from Colin Campbell
See http://www.rossrecords.com/index.php?select=search

Another film of Caithness with music is Come Over the Ord but is only available on video - See http://www.rossrecords.com/index.php?select=2408&type=4&productid=284

If you are still using video the site has an offer of five videos for £20 See http://www.rossrecords.com/index.php?select=specialoffers&discgrp=18 or four in American PAL format for £20

If you have not seen it the DVD of the TV series The Edge of the Land is well worth viewing - see http://www.rossrecords.com/index.php?select=2194&type=2&productid=1961

Alistair Sinclair from Wick has made some DVD's including ones of Wick. I think they are still sold at the Newsagents in Dempster Street, Poltney News.

Interesting picture Ross records use for the logo as they are based in Turiff. Sinclair & Girnigoe Castle with Noss lighthouse in the background isn't it ?

Also worth considering is local band Whisky's latest release (The Next Malting) as that contains lots of local scenery on the DVD disc (it also contains a full CD album as well).

The DVD also has lots of local dances and weddings that Whisky have played at over the past few years.

Available in all good stockists (see post in for sale section for full list) or by emailing info@whisky-band.co.uk (Price including P&P = £15.00)

PM me if you have problems getting hold of a copy.
