Mine has a lot of gunge on it from me spilling tea (it started out black), and the word "Belkin", and a big gel pad at the bottom. My travelling one has a kangaroo (Aboriginal art from Oz).

Actually I still like a mouse mat with an optical mouse (a) for the gel pad and (b) to introoduce a bit of smooth drag that makes it easier to move it smoothly. Actually there's also (c) - to cut out the clattery noise people make using an optical one on a formica tabletop.

Sorry don't have one now as I have switched to a tracker ball mouse. Hated it at first but have problems using the other ones now!!...forget to move them. Senior moments!!

Mines an infrared so don't need a mat but i have one with a water droplet on.
Also has tea, baby sick, dog hairs , dust, fag ash, Noooo I'm only joking !

I used to use an IceMAT, a coated sheet of glass which is the absolute best surface for "ball" mice. Works great for up-to-date optical mice also, I only stopped using mine as I'd turned the mouse sensitivity down so far in quake that the mat was no longer big enough. As I've got a opti Mouse I now use about 2 square feet of deskspace (no mat), the only clear part of the desk :)
