A walk at Lunchtime....in Thurso

I got of the bus, my child in tow
Could only walk rather slow
Attempted to traverse la rue
The afternoon nightmare began to ensue

I looked left and right
as I was originally taught
I stepped out into the road
A boy racer in front of me drove

I jumped back, shaking with fear
Why did he drive so very near?
Why was he going so fast
Its still a 30 zone when I looked last

Eventually I crossed the road
dropped my son of at class
To college then I strode
Those exams I wish to pass

Into a sea of black and of white
Chucking out time at Thurso High
They wander in and out of traffic
Driving the lollipop folk frantic

They seem to think that
they are not going to be hit
How long till one becomes ...
....a statistic?

Do they not know the
green cross code?
In primary school this
we were shown

So please you pupils of Thurso High school
Please dont break the unwritten rules
Watch where you walk, watch where you cross
In case your parents suffer your loss.

To you boy racers, please slow down
Its only a matter of time
Till a child is mown down
It could be your sister, it could be your neice
It could be you, dealing with the police.

Thank you....always find writing a poem the easiest way to get something off your chest.

I think it's always a very positive thing to do. :)

......and maybe one or two of those boy racers or pupils will also read it and remember it next time they go down the road.

Well done. :)

Excellent Mccaugm, well done, you have captured the scene perfectly.

Driving into the town for 9am from the West is a real nightmare these days with the High School children sprawling all over the road.

Well done mccaugm!

I also would like to add that at school "going in" and "chucking out" time the speed limit is reduced to 20mph ... perhaps drivers should be reminded of this!

20mph would be good laguna2 - if only we could go that fast!
