Following a very successful Highland Youth Voice, Transport themed conference, I though it would be appropriate to feedback to the constituency even though the vast majority of the viewers here will be adults.

The group which formerly dealt with mainly public transport issues which were faced by young people in the Highlands is, from today, to be known as the Transport & Road Safety Campaign Group. The group CURRENTLY consists of:

The convener, the Vice-Convener and another twelve Members of Highland Youth Voice (MHYVs) from across the Highlands.

It was agreed that, over the next Highland Youth Voice membership cycle, for the Caithness Area, the group would attempt to improve the links between Caithness & Inverness and then onward journeys further south to the likes of Glasgow and Edinburgh. The group are also to look into the possibility of having a direct service from Thurso-Wick-Inverness/ bus journey from Caithness - Inverness which will take little over 2 1/2 hours, without causing loses to bus companies.

The groups Highland Wide campaign will be for free public transport for all young people under 18 who are in full time education which is currently ongoing through petition to the Scottish Parliament. Along side this, the group will campaign to improve road safety around schools in the Highlands as well as improving school transport.

Various other issues will be tackled through out the Highlands by members of the campaign group.
