View Full Version : Scaly Leg Mites - Chickens

Hi,was wondering if anyone has some advice for me. We have 6 hens and one has a scaly leg she is still able to walkand it doesnt seem to bothering her. But it does look horrible have treated the leg with petroleum jelly but was wondering if anyone has any other advice. Could i get something from the vets without taking the chicken there.

You can get Johnsons Scaly Lotion or something from the vet. Scaly leg is caused by a mite that burrows in......................shouldn't be a problem and treatment is staright forward. :)

benzyl benzoate ( used for people with scabies) painted on weekly for 2 or 3 weeks should cure the problem. Don't expect the legs to look normal right away though, it has to be new scales replacing old ones and it takes time.
