Next year, my intention is to trek out and measure in detail the topography in detail of a large stretch of Caithness wilderness. My idea is to build up a digital 3D image so that I can view it from all angles etc.

Can anyone recommend any software that I can use to do this? I will be using theodolites etc to take my measurements.

(It is not windfarm-related if anyone was wondering[lol])

Thanks in advance.:Razz

I find using troglodytes a lot better as they tend to do as they are told...

Is this what you have in mind?

Talking about the north .. Don't know if there's any substance in it or not, but about 8 years ago we had an Ordnance Survey bloke come down our drive in his van and asked if he could set up some global positioning gizmo on our hardstanding.. In casual conversation he mentioned (I'm sure) that all the Ord Survey maps up here were c5 metres out and his work was involved in correcting it.. he did mention that originally it was all done by chains so should not be too hard on the pioneers..

Doesn't Google Earth already do this and offer a 3-D fly through across a plotted course? May be worth checking out as it could save you considerable time and effort.....
