does anyone know where i would be able to get hold of original layout plans for a house. we are intending to do some work with the heating and water, but dont want to have to tear up half the floors/walls to locate all the pipes.

I doubt very much if the plans would show that but the Council building control guys may be able to help.

Very rarely do the contractors stick the pipes where the architech draws them.

Surely the plans will show where the hatches have been situated though so that they will know which carpets etc to lift.
Ours do anyway.

In some cases, usually newer properties, the original plans are part of the title deed bundle as they would be required for buying/selling (building warrants/completion certificates etc).

These will be with the mortgage lenders if you have a mortgage, or if you don't then the solicitors you appoint (unless you have them yourself).

Its not always the case though.

failing this, you should get some idea if you can get up in the loft and find whereabouts the pipes go down...

we were lucky enough for the person that built the house 30yrs ago, gave us the plans, but has been altered by the last owners so it was nice to see how it was when built :D
