Anyone have any reccomendations of what desktop to get for home movie editing, what sort of ram etc would be required thanks

For movie editing you need two things:



Lots of RAM. I'd stick with 3GB which is about the most you can usually get under a 32bit OS (anything more and you're looking at Windows XP x64 or Vista x64).
Plenty of disk space - I'd say a 500GB drive (which is almost standard today) should be a starting point. You can always add more later.
Fast disks - At least a SATA drive (which again is pretty standard today) but you may want to look at SAS drives if you're getting serious as they are much faster.
Decent fast processor.

As a good starting point you may want to look at the HP Workstations - I have an xw4600 (quad core, 4GB RAM, 500GB SATA drive).
