Shipwreck on Reiss beech.

I walk on Reiss beech most days and often pass the remains of the shipwrecked Aberdeen trawler the Jean Stephans that went aground on the 18th January 1958.

Although it has been battered by the tide for over half a centuary the old steam boiler is still in remarkable good shape.

While down their today the tide was out further than normal and was able to get a good video clip of it.

I was having a fine time but not with my trousers rolled up though.lol
Its hard to believe that such a wonderfull beech has so little people on it.

yea mostly dog walkers now...just wondering that today...when was the last time we had a picnic on the beach...years ago

Nice video Kev, great place for walking dogs, the tide was rather far out, havn't seen it like that for several years.

Great item kevin, lots o' memories there-reiss beach-I can remember it,feel it,smell it,touch it, roll an jump down the sand dunes way from first going there with the sally army on a day out many many years ago,an at is still fresh in my memory:) On till bringing my young boys up on a visit from england an shouting at them to beware of the deep undertow on the seaward side of that ships wreck an with the semi submersed steelwork it was pure evil an the boys in their rush would have fallen foul of it .They saw the 'hole' there an gasped-memories.:D

As a young lad I was playing around the boiler and I found the dangers of the "hole".
I had been playing around the boiler earlier and it was fine; then as the tide was coming in and the water lapped around it,the sand stopped being firm and was like a gooey quicksand and I started to sink quite rapidly. Luckily my uncle was near by and hauled me out.

I was often warned as a bairn to stay off the wreck due to the 'quicksand'. Didn't stop us clambering over the boiler though!
