I may have missed a thread on this but can anyone tell me why NewtonHill Forest is closed.:~(
We decided to take the kids and dog for walk to the beach but it was far to wet and windy for the kids, so we decided to go to the forest up newton hill only to find that closed to the public. There is a notice up saying not fit for recreational use due to contamination.
Does anyone know what the contamination is.?

We ended up at dunnet forest and had a good day anyway!

It has been closed for months. I cant remember what chemical has surfaced, but believe it is from materials that were dumped years ago. There is no word of when it will re-open if it ever will?

i have just been told that the forest site and the caravaning site near the river were rubbish tips, so lord only knows what the contaminents are in the area.

Justine, I used to enjoy walking there too. Here's one thread on the subject :-

I'm sure you'll find more if you type Newtonhill into a Forum Search here.

Thanks for that.I did try putting it in the search but must have missed that one.
Its a pity as it is a nice placefor a walk. The kids certainly enjoyed the walks up there, but they got a bonus today and went to dunnet forest.
