Horatio Nelson,
Sir Edmund Hillary,
Neil Armstrong,
Louis Pasteur
Henry VIII, achieved something most men only dream.
Mr Thomson is the only person I can think of. He was great at the old teaching.
Now if you'd asked about achievers in Geography I could have listed at least three.
In fact. Kirsten Baxter. She got an "A"
My five would be:

I toyed with the idea of including Jesus - he is certainly up there, but to be honest so is the Prophet Mohammed, who had quite an incredble life and also a huge legacy. One of the others bubbling under on my list is Ashoka..........now I know why so many curry houses carry the name.
Feel obliged to add another 5!
Florence Nightingale (What can I say?)
Smeato (you better agree or I'll set aboot ye!)
Audie Murphy (33 medals need I say more)
George orwell (got me reading)
Super Ally McCoist (just for being himself!)

Never seen a curry named Jesus.;)
Used his name in vain a few times though while sat on the toilet the morning after a curry.

For me, Mohammed tarnished himself and dropped out of the top ten with the Teddy Bear carry on ;)
Ashoka, I don't know much about. However, if Wayne Rooney's parents had been inspired by a particularly good "Ruby Murray" in an Ashoka curry house they might have been tempted to name their son:-
"ASHOKA ROONEY"
