Have you installed any new software recently? Vista can be funny like that.
Bluetooth software can be the worst... especially blue soleil.

This is related to Vista Diagnostics / Performance Monitor.

Can you reproduce this error or does it just happen randomly?

Are there any external devices plugged in when it happens?

If you go to Computer > Properties > Windows Experience Index > Advanced Tools is there anything listed under Performance Issues?

Have you tried to be a system restore back to a time when the system didn't have these problems (assuming the problems are recent)?

This could have been the problem. In fact with quite general errors such as the one you were getting anything could have been the problem.

I did think it was related to Diagnostics / Performance, unless of course the driver caused the Diagnostics to fail in which case it would have logged the error.

I would say play the waiting game and see if the new drivers fixes it.
