Incredible feat - to have enough of a lead over such a short distance to be able to showboat the last 10m or so, and still manage to beat the World Record!

Mighty impressive...

Well done Usian, but what about our lad from Auld Reekie Chris Hoy on his third Gold Medal today and Ross Edgar on his medal too.

An astonishing performance. Bolt was available at odds of 11/8 before the heats started. That was a terrific price, considering that Tyson Gay has had problems and Asafa Powell has a sphincter that is about as robust as a half-set jelly on a hot Summer's day. Usain is now 1/20 to win the 200 as well. Even Chris Hoy would struggle to catch the new star, bike or no bike!!

Team GB did really well today, i was impressed with Rebecca Addlintons performance in the 800m freestyle she won it by a good bit and a new WR ..at only 19 years old, her second gold at 08 olympics .

Good wins for the Brits but it pales in comparison to a man who just became the fastest human being in history and in a hack canter as well!!

I say well done to Rebecca Adlington for winning two golds, smashing the oldest record on the books which makes her one of if not the best British swimmer ever.

There should be more later in the week as well. Not bad considering we took half as many people as USA and China and yet we are up there in third place.

Good wins for the Brits but it pales in comparison to a man who just became the fastest human being in history and in a hack canter as well!!Maurice Greene aeraged, 26.7 mph, much faster than Usain Bolt and there are 200m runners that are faster over 100m.

Thanks for that Bobinovich, I missed the race but I saw Bolt running in the earlier heats, he was just cruising, looking round grinning while the others were all straining. I thought to myself then that this guy was something special and boy didn't he prove it.

Our cyclists, swimmers and scullers have all done very well, plus all the others who took part and beat their personal best performances. Team GB has done us all proud.

Maurice Greene aeraged, 26.7 mph, much faster than Usain Bolt and there are 200m runners that are faster over 100m.

It is impossible for that to have occurred in a 100 meters race, otherwise Greene, and not Bolt would be the world record holder. Michael Johnson is the 200m world record holder, so Greene did not clock that average in a 200m race either. Johnson's world record for 200m is 19.32 seconds, which is obviously equivalent to 9.66 for each 100m if taken literally. That is only a baw hair inside Bolt's new world record and it has to be remembered that it takes sprinters time to gather momentum at the start of the race, and the second 100 meters of the race will be faster than the first 100. Had Bolt not been waving Milk, Lemonade and Chocolate to the crowd, he would easily have eclipsed Johnson's misleading average. Michael Johnson never broke 10 seconds for the 100m throughout his career and Bolt would have crushed him in the Blue Riband event every single time, if they had met in their prime. There has to be a serious chance that Bolt will take Johnson's world record sometime soon. He has already run 19.67 this year and cantered to a time of 19.76 at Crystal Palace. The Beijing track is faster and he is in scary form. He claims not to be targeting Johnson's record this year but it would not surprise me to see it fall.

I'm sure the 1st 3 are tested automatic anyway. It is scarey how easy this guy found this race.

Any naughty ones I hope would be caught and shamed but it gets tricky every year i think

If you only include events that are participated in while sitting on your arse (i.e., rowing, cycling, sailing etc.), would Team GB be top of the medals table?

More Gold for GB and this time the lassie was vertical throughout the event:-

It's a word that is much over-used (and much diluted through its over-use) these days I know, but, Bolt today was just awesome.

Nice to see him trying for a change though... ;)

Great entertainment from the Olympics and did you know that Beach Volley Ball is second only to football in world wide participation and how long can you balance on a stationary bike, should be a sport on its own.

But we are not third placed in the overall medal haul only in the gold category. When you look at the totals we drop down the table, so is a larger haul of bronze and silver more valuable if you are into measuring acheivement and national status by stacking up the gongs?

Its just wonderful to see Great Britain doing well and I was once very critical of all the Lottery funding going into Cycling, Sailing and Rowing. I am now eating my words :D.

Such a small nation when you compare it to china and the USA.

Apparently the IOC rank it by total gold medals, then if there is a tie the total medal count is the decider.

The Americans work it on total medals first, which means a bronze medal is worth the same as a gold medal to them.

Seems strange to me, anyway...

How do you feel about Christine Ohuruogu, being allowed to take part in the Olympics, after being banned, did she desrve to take part? I feel her gold medal is a little tarnished, and takes the glitter away from all the other Team GB athletes.

I say good luck to the lassie. Yet, I feel it is a farce that she was allowed to compete, while Dwain Chambers was bombed out in very similar circumstances. There has to be greater consistency in my opinion.
