Yet another that i aint sure of.. looks a bit like Bog asphidel .. no apparent foliage just a flower spike about 2 to 3 inches high and growing all over in the boggy ground around the Yarrows achiological walk :D

Saw alot of this out to The Floe Country, I thought it might be some sort of St John's Wort but would also be delighted with a positive identity.

i'm never sure of identification and usually wait till taraxacum tells me if i'm right or not but there are some interesting facts to be found if it is bog asphidel here : http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/index/learning_about/nature_in_the_dales/species/plants/bog_plants/bog_asphodel.htm

Hi, Count,

Yes it is Bog Asphodel (Narthecium ossifragum). The ossifragum means bone-breaker, referring to the fact that animals regularly grazing this type of ground develop weak bones due to lack of calcium in the vegetation. Even though it does not seem closely associated with the flower stalk, you should see lots of small iris-like sword-shaped leaves in the immediate vicinity.

Good hunting!
