What are they?

Have been scouring the bird books and neither me nor hubby can make our minds up, these were at May beach ten days back.

They look like Dunlin to me with that dark belly, but hard to get an idea of their size.

Thanks Aaldtimer that was 1 of the identifications we had been thinking about. They were quite small, but could n't get close enough to get a comparative shot. Do both the adults and the juevniles have the dark smudge on their lower breast?
Really must find a better illustrated bird book!

Dunno about the juveniles my book only shows what looks like new born chicks in the illustration.

...they really have a dintinctive feeding behaviour that you should be able to compare in the wee video. They also seem to be the only wader with that dark belly smudge. :D
